‘Grill the Cyborg’ under the context of moving image experiment, aiming at breaking stereotype identities, applies virtual characters perform and live in a cyberspace. In the project, ‘Grill’ as a abstract verb, represented the phase realities transform to virtual states. Live person vocal, facial performances are transmitted to the virtual space through 2D animated characters in real time. Scripts adapt from various kind of texts, including narrator of food documentary, literature, creative writing etc. By 3D scanning people, objects, landscape from two different location: UK and China, achieves unknown connection without physical contacts.

We mesh together 2D and 3D techniques to realise a surreal alternate dimension, centred around a virtual mountain. Traditional watercolour paintings will be digitised and transposed into the environment, giving a sense of texture. Physical sculptures and figures will be photogrammetrically scanned to create hyper-real and uncanny forms. By digitising physical forms the work explores how cyberspace emulates and transcends physicality. The work aims to incite an expanded state of consciousness, making the viewer more receptive to the embodied experience of being online.
